Night out with me mates
May 31st, 2004 by john
I had a typical Aussie night out with me mates last wednesday. We went to Alexandra Headlands Surf Club (every town on the coast has one), had a roast meat dinner and watched the State of Origin Rugby (League) game. We cheered Queensland on, but they lost 9-8 in extra time (not overtime) to New South Wales. 2 more games to decide the winner. Weird sport.
A little about footy: There’s Australian Rules Football (footy), Rugby League (played mostly by Queensland & New South Wales), then Rugby Union (played by everyone else including Britain), then Soccer. And I won’t even get into Netball – a wussie version of basketball designed for girls who don’t want to sweat. Very strange.
Colette and I are going with some friends to a Aus. Rules Football game this saturday in brisbane. Should be fun.
We got the keys to our new place on Friday. Went out and spent gobs o’ money Saturday & Sunday buying a table, bookcase type thing, bakers rack, a fridge, and a washer & dryer. Whew. My credit card arm is tired.
Our stuff has cleared customs & quarantine, but we don’t know when it’ll make it up from Melbourne (why did they have to send it there!). Argh.
Crikey.
