We had a great time at the Aussie Rules Football game Saturday. We were 4 rows back from the field just behind the goal posts (or whatever they call them). Lots of interesting facts:
1. No pregame national anthem
2. No net behind the posts to catch the balls – the crowd just throws the ball back into the field after a goal
3. No beer cap or checking of IDs (now that’s nice!)
4. The field is HUGE!!!
It’s a cool game, actually. It flows like hockey – no stopping while everyone lines up or anything, the start of the game is a ‘bounce’ which is similar to basketball. The ref bounces the football in the center of the field and the 2 teams send in their ‘ruckman’ to try to tip the ball to their players. There’s a penalty if you get tackled! You can’t throw the ball – you have to punch it to someone else. The only way to score is to kick the ball through the goal posts.
Here’s us enjoying a VB (Victoria Bitter) and a four ‘n’ twenty meat pie at the footy with friends Ben & Prue. It doesn’t get much more Aussie than that. The RSPCA (identical to the SPCA in America) was selling lion ears to raise money so of course we had to buy a set for Colette.
You all look like your having a great time boy did Colette relly cut her hair but it looks good.
say, now….the kitty ears on Colette look fine, but aren’t they kinda goofy looking on that there Jon (aussie/brit spelling, doancha know) character?
I like Colette’s new hair cut. She looks great even with the ears. Sounds like a fast game and more interesting than football.
I love the hair!!! Do you feel naked without all of it? Why doesn’t John have ears?
Now that would’ve been cute to see? Or should I ask, How many beers did it take for
John to put Colette’s ears on?
