Yet another adventure leaving the US

Colette has run into some bad luck trying to get back to Australia. She had a Qantas flight from NYC/JFK to Sydney leaving about 7:30 pm Wednesday. We booked her a JetBlue flight to JFK leaving Rochester about 12:30. That gave everyone 7 hours to get her down to New York and onto the Qantas flight. Plenty of time!
But no!!!!!
Some sort of freak thunderstorm came and camped out above NYC and pretty much closed the airports for the entire day! She called Qantas a couple times from Rochester to see if she should still try to come down or just reschedule. They told her both times to come down if she could. So, she finally left Rochester after 7:00 and arrived at JFK around 8:30. Which just so happened was when the Qantas flight was finally taking off. And guess when the next flight out is? Friday! At 7:30pm!
So, now she’s hanging out in lovely Lynbrook NY (birthplace of Captiain Kangaroo) killing time for two days.
On top of that she’s had to pay almost $1000 AUD to Qantas to rebook the flight and a few hundred for the room and, of course, meals and such. Argh!
On the plus side we bought travel insurance so maybe we’ll be able to get some of that back.
It just seems that everytime we try to leave the states something goes wrong and our credit card gets a workout. Is that a message, or what?
