Well, we didn’t do so badly on our first (and only) Christmas day in Queensland. It was stinking hot & humid, just like it’s supposed to be I guess. We got some cool prezzies and a lot of gift certificates to Amazon. Yay for Amazon! You can check out some pictures here

We were watching the news tonight and they had a big segment on the cops doing a lot of breathalyzer tests leading up to Christmas. One comment was “most Queensland drivers are familiar with the breathalyzer” which prompted Colette to remark that we’ve never been tested. A little while later we decide to go out [...]

Whew! It’s stinking hot! 10 AM today and my little weather tool says it’s 36 C (97F) out already. Hardly seems like christmas weather. The other day I was wrapping Colette’s gifts wearing shorts with a fan blowing on me while watching Cricket on the TV. If that doesn’t say Christmas, I don’t know what [...]

It was a beautiful day so we went to our new favorite pub right on the water by the boats – the Kawana Hotel. There was a couple guys wandering around raffling off a meat tray (a tray filled with sausages, pork chops, lamb chops, etc). We figured we’d buy a couple tickets. Of course, [...]

We had a great time on the Gold Coast last weekend. It was very relaxing. Didn’t really do much and the weather was a bit chilly but it was still nice. We had a great dinner at a restaurant called Songbirds. If you go to the website you can listen to the birds! The Kookaburas [...]

On our anniversary we met up with some friends at the local horse racing park to celebrate the Melbourne Cup. We got all dressed up (colette even bought a hat) and went with our chairs and esky to Corbould Park to watch the ponies. Unfortunately, about 18,000 other people had the same idea! What a [...]

We have a new friend! He comes and visits whenever we leave our car windows down. He doesn’t ever say much and he prefers to hang out when we’re not there (all our friends seem to share this trait!) and he has a curious habit of sitting on the ledge under the back window. Twice [...]

Incredible! Australia got a movie before the US! Wallace & Grommit: Curse of the were-rabbit has been out here for about a month. I guess it’s just getting to the States now. Now that’s news!

Well, spring is done. It lasted about 5 hours. Today was 37 celsius (97 fahrenheit) and tomorrow is supposed to be 36 before cooling back down a bit on Sunday. Whew. Tomorrow morning my big job is to get the air conditioner in the window. Then it’s off to the beach for the day!

Last Sunday we went up to the Coolum Kite Festival. It was quite a site! These were not your ordinary Ben Franklin kites – these were huge 3-dimensional constructions! There was a huge octopus, stingray, spaceship, and various other fun shapes. Kind of like a balloon festival without all the hot air. Pictures have been [...]
